Reader's Nook

Here are a few reads that I have found fascinating, interesting, mind bending or simply fun. I hope it gives you some inspiration on what to read next. Go find a quiet nook and get lost in a book for a while. 
A  brilliant piece of character writing that explores, belonging, growing up and tribes. This is a really beautifully written book, but not overly poetic, it doesn't feel like a lecture; its just a lovely story. 
This book tells the story of people growing up in orthodox Jewish communities and finding love. It's a character driven novel that examines people trying to do right by themselves, their love and their religion. Very interesting. 
A truly excellent and atmospheric read. It's a curiosity novel about flawed people that leaves you constantly guessing. A few blue moments, so don't grab it if your easily offended. One of my favourite books for a while. 
This might be my favourite read of 2017. This western style journey movie, follows the life of two men with a brilliantly lyrical writing style. Most interesting and engaging story I've read for a while. ​
A story told entirely from the perspective of a bee.  This very different novel reads almost like a sci-fi adventure. Well worth a look.

Nerissa is a vet, looking after animals on a submarine. A vessel that has rescued a small population from the growing floods. This poetic piece of speculative fiction is a must read.

Speculative fiction with a horror edge. This great book explores climate change and motherhood in a truly twisted and gripping way. Any speculative fiction or horror fans should grab it.

A thriller set on the Kent cost. If you like your edgy thrillers you should ready this. Simple!


 
Bizarre, funny, sad. This is a book for those looking for something truly different. The best description I can give you is that this is like a Wez Anderson indie film in a book. Try it.
